Northern Lincolnshire to be part of net zero industrial cluster by 2040.
Northern Lincolnshire will be part of the East Coast Cluster, selected as one of the UK’s first carbon capture and storage projects. The aim is to make the industrial cluster net zero by 2040.
Zero Carbon Humber is part of the East Coast Cluster and will lead the project in this area, bringing industry and business together, using low carbon hydrogen and capturing carbon emissions.
British Steel has carbon capture as a key factor in its Plans, with a phased reduction in carbon emissions by 2035, with the ambition to be net zero by 2050. The company also have plans for product innovation, recycling and reuse as well as electric arc furnace steel-making at the Scunthorpe plant.
National Grid has proposed a network of pipelines to transport captured carbon emissions for safe storage under the North Sea. CPRE Northern Lincolnshire has responded to the consultation on the route of these pipelines and there will be 2 further rounds of consultation later this year.
